Dear Ginger:

Ok, yo. You seriously need to start keeping track of which pattern alterations are intentional. :P Or at least, make a note somewhere why the side cables on OlyRogue and DanRogue have 5 cross repeats, while the side cables on DreamRogue have 7 cross repeats, and IrishRogue has side cables with 6 cross repeats. Especially since the pattern for your size technically wants FOUR cross repeats.

I know IrishRogue got at least one extra because the row gauge was off, and one repeat in the repeat section about made up for that, I think. But that was two and a half years ago, so I could be completely making that up. And DanRogue is in the size that DOES want 5 repeats. But it's also knitted in the largest size the pattern comes in, so why it has fewer repeats than any of the others I've made, which are all smaller sizes, I got no clue.

Yargh. Below the armscyes, RagRogue is the same style as OlyRogue, though in the same yarn as DreamRogue. I figure I'll split the difference, do six cross repeats, then measure to see if I need another. But seriously, self, WTF.

Finally got the chance to take pics of a couple of things I've worked on lately, including one I just finished up with this morning.

a matched pair of Rogues and a lovely bit of purple )
ginger: (method to the madness)
Crafting: In the last couple of weeks, I've finished my DreamRogue (pictures, yes, as soon as I find the camera), and a hat-and-scarf set for my sister for christmas. (Speaking of Rogues, Em, yours is about half-done. I need to email you momentarily about the colors.)

Family: We missed the local-relatives holiday gathering coz I had to work. I talked to my little sister for the first time in a good....oh, year or so? 2 out of our 3 Christmas boxes from various family members did not arrive before Christmas, and I am (as usual) horribly behind in sending out our boxes to said various family members.

Gaming: In WoW, my druid has at this point supplanted my hunter as my main character. I've been toodling around with a couple of alts, all of whom are currently between L8 and L16, and a baby Dranei on the beta BC server (but not much, because I don't want to play her way up just in time to start her over). In D&D, Nephari's sword is now positively terrifying, and she is still well-decorated. And last weekend, I kicked some serious butt at a 5-person game of Monopoly, almost entirely thanks to a deal that Ari made with me early on. :)

Health: I'm fallin' apart. :P My hip has been acting up, though not bad enough to require the Staff of Moose. I'm currently just over a bacterial eye infection, and my feet would Very Much like for me to get another pair of Danskos. (Which will happen, as soon as I get to Nordstrom's so that I can try the style I want on to confirm the size and then find someplace far cheaper to order them online.)

New Years' Goal: Crappy. Well, sorta. On the one hand, I started completely disregarding the entire thing back in June and went back to bad habits. On the other, I lost 18 pounds and 2 pants sizes (and one bra size, dammit) between January and June, and even having gone back to overdosing on soda and fast food and not enough water and vegetables, I've stayed within a 4-pound weight range and in the same size clothing between June and now. So at this point, I'm inclined to call it a more-or-less success.

Reading: [livejournal.com profile] pyran and [livejournal.com profile] fishsupreme foisted the Riftwar Saga on me, and I'm currently most of the way through the second (original) book. Very much enjoying. I also read yesterday a book on smallpox eradication (Demon in the Freezer, I think?). I'm currently on the library waitlist for John Grisham's and Stephen King's latest books as well, and I'm going to go add Eragon and Eldest to my hold list too, while I'm thinking about it.

School: Currently between quarters. Winter 2007 starts on January 2nd, and right now, my class list tentatively includes Medical Billing (2 credits), Transcription 2 (barf), Credentials, Accounting, and Medical Office Management. This is still up in the air, a bit, as I've just discovered one major hitch in my carefully laid-out plan: the only non-medical course requirement in my program is a specific interpersonal communications course through the business department. Up through Summer 2006, it was offered in either a 3- or 5-credit variant, and up through Fall 2006, offered either in-class or online. For Winter 2007, at least, it's offered as a 5-credit course ONLY, and the only class session is 11am-11:50am every weekday. Not exactly workable, due to my day job. Hopefully it's offered online during Spring quarter - otherwise, it'll require some serious hoop-jumping to get my certifications done in June 2007 as I had planned. =/ However, my GPA is currently 3.88 :) And my goal is to get my application submitted to UW by the end of the year. (Deadline is in February.)

Watching: Movie recommendation - Night at the Museum. Ben Stiller has finally managed another non-crappy movie. We're halfway through season 4 of Babylon-5, and I bought myself The 10th Kingdom for my birthday. Also, M. Night Shya-whatsis has finally redeemed himself after all the crap movies he put out since The Sixth Sense - Lady in the Water was a very good movie, I thought.

Wedding: Big Seattle Wedding Show is the 6th. Time is omgzorz flying. o.O

So I originally had great intentions of documenting my DreamRogue in progress, the same way I did the OlyRogue. Alas, I did not actually keep up with these intentions - and now I'm almost done.

But here's a couple quick snaps of current progress on my favorite part, the hood cabling:

Due to the quality of my SK camera, it's a tad hard to tell the brown from the green, up top - easier in the first picture than the second though.

Gonna be absolutely awesome when I'm finished - which shouldn't be much later than the end of the holiday weekend. :)

Have you ever done that thing where you hear a particularly complicated or wordy song, and obsessively listen to it over and over until you can sing the whole thing? I do, pretty regularly. The last one before this was "We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel.

This week it's been "La Vie Boheme A" from Rent. (Probably to be followed up with "La Vie Boheme B" once I finish nailing A.) At this point, the only hitch is the line "To apathy, to entropy, to empathy..." - I continually put "empathy" first, probably because it actually flows better that way. Hmph. "Antonioni" and "two tofu dog platter" both threw me for a while as well, but I've got them sorted out now.

In other news, I started a DreamRogue sleeve last night, and plan to document it photographically like I did with OlyRogue. (Oh. I never said anything about that. I have a Yarn Angel who sent me most of the yarn for DreamRogue, ostensibly so I can have a Rogue in progress for demonstration purposes during her visit, but really because she is teh awesomez0rz. Squee!!)

Projects currently on needles:

Miscellaneous socks
Yarn (current pair): KnitPicks Essential Tweed in Aztec Gold
Needles: size 2 KP DPNs
Progress: perpetually on-going (I always have a sock in progress)

Viveka (the first pic is funky, but the later ones are cute)
Yarn: KnitPicks Main Line in Cocoa
Needles: size 4 Clovers
Progress: about 6.5" of body. Currently on hold: need about 18 more balls of yarn to finish.

Easy Lace Duster
Yarn: KP Merino Style in Coal
Needles: size 7 Addis
Progress: Body completed, sleeve 1 80% done, need to finish sleeves and assemble.

Flirty Ruffles shawl
Yarn: Jaggerspun Zephyr in Copper
Needles: size 3 Addis
Progress: chart 6 of ...9, I think? Probably about 70% done, roughly.

Projects in mind:
DreamRogue
Yarn: KP Merino Style in Vanilla, Butternut, Cinnamon and either Moss or Storm.
Needles: size 7 Addis, I think.

Lucie
Yarn: Unsure yet. I may swatch to see if I can do it with the big pile of Elsebeth Lavold's Silky Wool I have left over from Eris - that would be drop-dead gorgeous. *ponder* Could be - Lucie's gauge is 7st/inch, and Eris' gauge was 6st/inch. Must experiment.

Serrano
Yarn: Another option for the Silky Wool. Still pondering. Also 7st/inch gauge.

Dan is a bad influence.

I've been craving another Rogue lately - I don't know why I love this pattern so much, but it's fromping fantabulous. I've done four so far: GreenRogue (about sweatshirt-weight), CrappyRogue (made in Wool-Ease, which I can't wear, and has been discarded a while ago), IrishRogue (made on our trip to Ireland last year, lightweight cotton), and OlyRogue (with which I won a gold medal in the 2006 Knitting Olympics back in February).

After the colored hood band on OlyRogue, I didn't really want to do another plain one. But then Dan started asking questions about colorwork and cables. And I thought about the sleeve bands on the sweater I made Holly earlier this year.

And a light bulb went on.

Rogue #5 - DreamRogue - will be knit in KnitPicks Merino Style, like OlyRogue. Vanilla, for the base color. The wrist cables will be either Storm, Moss, or Butternut against the Vanilla. (Undecided yet.) And the piéce de résistance - the hood cabling - will be, against the cream background, intertwined Butternut, Cinnamon, and either Moss or Storm.

The angst: I can't order any yarn for it until at LEAST mid-October. *woe*

(Also, for reference, my adoration for this pattern means that I would be happy to make one free for people who are willing to provide the yarn.)
