ginger: (method to the madness)
Crafting: In the last couple of weeks, I've finished my DreamRogue (pictures, yes, as soon as I find the camera), and a hat-and-scarf set for my sister for christmas. (Speaking of Rogues, Em, yours is about half-done. I need to email you momentarily about the colors.)

Family: We missed the local-relatives holiday gathering coz I had to work. I talked to my little sister for the first time in a good....oh, year or so? 2 out of our 3 Christmas boxes from various family members did not arrive before Christmas, and I am (as usual) horribly behind in sending out our boxes to said various family members.

Gaming: In WoW, my druid has at this point supplanted my hunter as my main character. I've been toodling around with a couple of alts, all of whom are currently between L8 and L16, and a baby Dranei on the beta BC server (but not much, because I don't want to play her way up just in time to start her over). In D&D, Nephari's sword is now positively terrifying, and she is still well-decorated. And last weekend, I kicked some serious butt at a 5-person game of Monopoly, almost entirely thanks to a deal that Ari made with me early on. :)

Health: I'm fallin' apart. :P My hip has been acting up, though not bad enough to require the Staff of Moose. I'm currently just over a bacterial eye infection, and my feet would Very Much like for me to get another pair of Danskos. (Which will happen, as soon as I get to Nordstrom's so that I can try the style I want on to confirm the size and then find someplace far cheaper to order them online.)

New Years' Goal: Crappy. Well, sorta. On the one hand, I started completely disregarding the entire thing back in June and went back to bad habits. On the other, I lost 18 pounds and 2 pants sizes (and one bra size, dammit) between January and June, and even having gone back to overdosing on soda and fast food and not enough water and vegetables, I've stayed within a 4-pound weight range and in the same size clothing between June and now. So at this point, I'm inclined to call it a more-or-less success.

Reading: [ profile] pyran and [ profile] fishsupreme foisted the Riftwar Saga on me, and I'm currently most of the way through the second (original) book. Very much enjoying. I also read yesterday a book on smallpox eradication (Demon in the Freezer, I think?). I'm currently on the library waitlist for John Grisham's and Stephen King's latest books as well, and I'm going to go add Eragon and Eldest to my hold list too, while I'm thinking about it.

School: Currently between quarters. Winter 2007 starts on January 2nd, and right now, my class list tentatively includes Medical Billing (2 credits), Transcription 2 (barf), Credentials, Accounting, and Medical Office Management. This is still up in the air, a bit, as I've just discovered one major hitch in my carefully laid-out plan: the only non-medical course requirement in my program is a specific interpersonal communications course through the business department. Up through Summer 2006, it was offered in either a 3- or 5-credit variant, and up through Fall 2006, offered either in-class or online. For Winter 2007, at least, it's offered as a 5-credit course ONLY, and the only class session is 11am-11:50am every weekday. Not exactly workable, due to my day job. Hopefully it's offered online during Spring quarter - otherwise, it'll require some serious hoop-jumping to get my certifications done in June 2007 as I had planned. =/ However, my GPA is currently 3.88 :) And my goal is to get my application submitted to UW by the end of the year. (Deadline is in February.)

Watching: Movie recommendation - Night at the Museum. Ben Stiller has finally managed another non-crappy movie. We're halfway through season 4 of Babylon-5, and I bought myself The 10th Kingdom for my birthday. Also, M. Night Shya-whatsis has finally redeemed himself after all the crap movies he put out since The Sixth Sense - Lady in the Water was a very good movie, I thought.

Wedding: Big Seattle Wedding Show is the 6th. Time is omgzorz flying. o.O
ginger: (crickets)
Crafting: The right-hand front of the Easy Lace Duster is done, and I'm about 1/4 of the way through the left-hand front. I am beginning to get seriously annoyed by pattern directions that want you to decrease in lace, but can't be bothered to tell you how best to do so. If I wanted to figure out half the directions by myself, I wouldn't have paid $6 for a pattern, y'know?

Family: We had awesome visitness with Joyce and Jeff, who left this morning to head back to NC by the Long Way. During that visit, there was also visit with Jill, Chas and Kit, which involved a road trip with El Ari, and we all had a darned good time.

Gaming: Absolutely nothing. I think I logged onto WoW and flew around a bit on griffons, and that was it.

New Years' Goal: I'm within 6 pounds of my goal range. Back on the bandwagon. I keep slacking on weekends. *facepalm*

Reading: I read the entire Little House series over the last week, except for The Long Winter, which I read half of this morning on the bus and will finish on the way home tonight. Also more Matthew Reilly. Adding Harry Turtledove rereads to library list today. Must also reload the PDA with e-books. (New PDA battery should be arriving tomorrow-ish.)

School: Grades are supposed to be posted today, but they aren't yet. *huff puff* (This section grew into a life of its own over the course of 45 minutes - further noodling post to come.)

Wedding: Joyce and Anjela and I went fabric shopping on Saturday. We have bridesmaid dress patterns! (Yes, HAVE, as in they were all on sale for $2, so we snapped them up.) I found a brocade that's pretty much what I had in mind for the main part of my dress, though I've been recommended to check out the special occasion fabric ROOM at the Northgate Pacific Fabrics, so I'll make my way out there and look sometime this week - but if I don't find anything I like out there, I think I'm going to pick up the brocade on Saturday, as I have a 1-day-only-coupon for 50% off any one cut of fabric. We found a couple of possibilities for part A of the bridesmaid dress, but nothing leaped out at us for part B of the bridesmaid dress or part B of my dress.

Work: Putting out lots of little fires this morning.
ginger: (qapla')
3-Day: I have been slacking on my training for the last couple of weeks, between preparing for finals and taking trips. I am teh sux0rz. On the fundraising front, my little thermometer is currently sitting at $2270 of $3300, formerly $2200. Why yes, Virginia, that means I have met my minimum, thanks to quite a few of you lovely folks! The fundraising link is on the sidebar of my journal page, and I'll repost it later today, as I missed the first Monday of the month.

Crafting: I finished the Reid for [ profile] pixelwench's fundraising auction and started a new project last weekend - an Easy Lace Duster in KnitPicks Merino Style, in Coal. I finished the back last night and started one of the fronts, plus I've done the two lace cuffs for the sleeves.

Family: Joyce and Jeff get into town tomorrow night, so we'll be having resident company on and off for the next week-ish. The nephew podling was in the hospital ER for a few hours last week with a crazy-high fever, but all seems to be well now (or if it's not, nobody's told me otherwise). My grandmother and her platonic lifemate get into town on the 30th, passing through on their way to an Alaskan cruise, and Dan's family arrives the next day to stay for just over a week. Ari went to Vegas this weekend and, as I requested, brought me back more "Hello Kitty" style Star Trek t-shirts like my "Qapla' Klingon" one - a Ferengi one that says "What's in it for me?", a Vulcan one that says "Live Long and Prosper", and a Borg one that says "Get assimilated". I squee'ed.

Gaming: Kedria's L31 now. Other than that, not much.

New Years' Goal: Crappy. But I'm currently within 6 pounds of my goal range. (Well, more specifically, I've been keeping to most of the subgoals just fine, but I've not been tracking any of it.)

Reading: I've plowed through about 3/4 of the works of James Patterson lately, and have started rereading everything that Matthew Reilly has written. I think some Harry Turtledove rereads will be next, plus I have all the Little House books out of the library.

School: I took three of my finals last Wednesday, and the other three are tonight. Summer quarter starts at the end of the month, and I'll be taking 4 terminology courses (Female Reproductive, Nervous, Endocrine and Musculoskeletal Systems), HIV/AIDS, and Medical Insurance Billing.

Watching: Lots. Last weekend, I rented five movies from Blockbuster on Saturday, watched and returned them, and rented 3 more on Sunday. I've finally concluded that I need to stop trying to watch collaborations between Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Dan and I have started watching season 1 of 24, and Sunnie came to our Babylon-5 viewing night last week.

Wedding: I'll be checking out our photographer's portfolio at GenCon, and Sammy and I came to an arrangement about wedding catering. (Of course, shortly thereafter, Dan grumped about me not consulting him about food, as he doesn't remember that I said "Sandwich board, appetizers, desserts?" and he said that sounded fine. But we've got time to make alterations if necessary.) Need to collaborate with Joyce and Anjela - hopefully we can squeeze in a bit of fabric shopping while Joyce is in town!

Work: Pretty light. We're in my downtime half of the year, but I've got some non-urgent stuff I've been working on. There's a big scary baby shower today that I've been roped into helping with. o.O I'm not sure how this happened. First, I wasn't going. Then I was going. Then I was going and bringing a giant fruit salad (which was actually kind of fun to make). Now I'm helping set it all up too. Ay, well. I don't really have much else to do. :)
ginger: (heart)
3-Day: Training is going spectacularly. On the fundraising front, my little thermometer is currently sitting at $1715 of $2200. The fundraising link is on the sidebar of my journal page, and I'll repost it the first Monday of each month (why, that would be today!). I did a 6.25-mile walk this weekend, with no breaks longer than waiting for a traffic light to change so I could cross the street, and had no problems with it. :)

Crafting: I ripped the summer Eris back, except for the cable yoke - I wasn't liking the way it was working out. I'll try again later, but I've got some other stuff I need to get done first. While I wait for my Knitpicks order, I started working on my Flirty Ruffles shawl again. Also, last night I put longer straps on one of my bags, and it's pretty darned near perfect for what I had in mind.

Exercise: Walking, dance, need to get my bike down.

Family: I go to visit my grandma in a couple weeks, and it turns out that she and her whatever-he-is-these-days are going to be coming through Seattle at the end of June for a cruise to Alaska, at the same time that Dan's family is coming into town for a visit. Joyce and Jeff are coming in mid-June, and I'm going to visit Jill at the end of May as well.

Gaming: Kedria's L30 now. Other than that, not much.

New Years' Goal: 9 out of the last 10 weeks have been 100%. I've lost 15 pounds roughly since I started this whole schtick - 5-10 more to go.

Reading: I'm reading a couple of books right now that I....totally can't remember the names or authors of. *facepalm*

School: Doing well. Everything's on track. :)

Watching: I watched Robin Hood: Men in Tights and What A Girl Wants the other night. I've been lax on my movie-watching, because I've been a bit lax on the knitting.

Wedding: We have a full wedding party now, and less than a year til the wedding. Dan vetoed my wedding cupcakes idea. Time to start rolling on the planning. :)

Work: Pretty light. We're in my downtime half of the year, but I've got some non-urgent stuff I've been working on.
ginger: (baby moose)
3-Day: Training is going spectacularly. On the fundraising front, my little thermometer is currently sitting at $1715 of $2200. The fundraising link is on the sidebar of my journal page, and I'll repost it the first Monday of each month. I've found several good paths in my neighborhood for training walks: one 3-mile loop, one 4-mile loop, and one 4.5 mile loop. Annoyingly, I'm getting into a part that involves 5-mile walks. :P Oh well - six works just as well, or I can fake it :)

Crafting: I've got the summer Eris still on needles (need to finish the hem cabling and the sleeves), plus three more projects I need to order the yarn for. I've been toying with ideas to make an organizer pouch for a bag, and also a summer dress or two.

Exercise: I started a new belly-dance session last night - it's a shorter session though due to the holidays at the end of May. It's nice enough that I'm going to start riding my bicycle for my cross-training, I think.

Family: Dan and I loved our trip to Vegas. I'm going to visit my grandmother in a couple of weeks, and Joyce and Jeff are coming to visit in June. Yay!

Gaming: Nephari waived her DNR order and let Orithoc resurrect her after being slain by a Death Slaad, after the boys pointed out that without Nephari, they can't go on through the dungeon, since she's the only melee character. I do, however, intend to start putting together my moose druid character. Karrec has the first 3 pieces of her Dungeon 2 set and is working on getting the next 3. Kedria hit L29 and is well on her way to 30.

New Years' Goal: I ended my streak of 100% by forgetting to eat fruit or veggies on one day, but then started up another one the very next week.

Reading: I've been chowing through books on the e-reader. I read a series of four trashy romance novels while we were coming to and from Vegas, and I've been reading the first book in the Abhorsen series (I forget if that's the actual name of it, but whatever) by Garth Nix.

School: So far, I'm on schedule. Though I need to work the vocab-only classes into the schedule too, they've fallen by the wayside so far as they don't have any in-class-required components.

Watching: Armageddon. That's........yeah, that's about it. And I re-watched Rent the other night. Ari and I are going to watch some B5 tonight :D

Work: Pretty light. We're in my downtime half of the year, but I've got some non-urgent stuff I've been working on.
ginger: (baby moose)
3-Day: Training is going well. The weather is getting to the point where I prefer to walk outside rather than in, as long as it's not raining. I've found that if I make a loop from my house to Crossroads by one road and back by another, it's about 3.25 miles - the last couple of days, I've been walking to do errands like returning movies to Blockbuster and books to the library to get my walking done. On the fundraising front, my little thermometer is currently sitting at $1595 of $2200. The fundraising link is on the sidebar of my journal page, and I'll repost it the first Monday of each month (namely, tomorrow). I've made some discoveries about things I've been doing unconsciously that have been causing pain, and working to implement possible solutions.

Crafting: I have about an inch and a half, plus toe shaping, left to go on a sock I've been working on for months :P (I put it down and procrastinated about picking it up again - but it's sock #2, so I'm trying to power through it.) I'm on the hem parts of the summer Eris, with 1 cable corner of 4 done and the second one in progress - after that, just the sleeves will be left. I finally found the duster pattern I had that I've been looking for, and I need to pick a good kid's sweater pattern.

Family: Dan did not tell his parents I was pregnant for April Fool's this year. *whew* I have plane tickets to go visit my grandmother in Arizona in May, and I'm looking forward to that. I need to find out the dates of Dan's family's visit this summer, because there's a training camp I'd like to go to if the two don't overlap.

New Years' Goal: Stellar. Not only have I been meeting my goals at 100% for six weeks straight, that means I got a 100% for the month of March.

Reading: I have a hyoooge pile of library books. I finished "And the Dead Will Rise" and started "The Lady and the Unicorn."

School: Quarter starts tomorrow. I'll be taking 2 anatomy/terminology classes, patient scheduling, front office basics, Coding 1, and....I'm totally drawing a blank on the last one. Feh. (Edit: The last one is Medical Records and Correspondence.) For winter quarter, I got an overall 3.75 GPA, bringing my cumulative GPA to 3.83.

Watching: I watched "Memoirs of a Geisha" this weekend, and liked the movie much better than I remember liking the book. That said, I haven't read the book since it came out. I may reread it. I've also been watching Ice Princess and The 4400 - cute and interesting, respectively.

Wedding: Same old. I am not a bridezilla.

Work: I got a raise effective April 1 :)
ginger: (baby moose)
3-Day: Training is going well. This morning, I met up with [ profile] pixelwench and [ profile] wankle (and miscellaneous other people) to do an 8K walk for the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. I adore my little camelback - very handy. On the fundraising front, my little thermometer is currently sitting at $1585 of $2200. The fundraising link is on the sidebar of my journal page, and I'll repost it at the beginning of each month. I had a physical on Monday, at which I had blood drawn for the first time ever (it's strangely fascinating, in kind of a squicky sort of way), and I have low cholesterol and no danger of developing diabetes any time soon. All looks well, and my doctor is impressed with my goals.

Crafting: I finished the box-lace scarf woo! I'm currently on the body of the summer Eris, which is going kind of slowly, as I'm on row 29 of 58 rows of straight-up stockinette - BORING. I want to dig out the lace duster pattern I have, as well as making myself a summer dress or two, since I can never find ones that I like in stores. I also ordered a recently released pattern book of cable-y things (Anjela - it's the one that was rec'ed the other day by the Yarn Harlot, if you want to take a look at it - it should be delivered Tuesday.)

Family: Pending confirmation from my boss, I'll be visiting my grandmother in Arizona from May 11-15th. She is apparently no longer dating the alcoholic, which pleases me. In further boggle, her best friends, who I've grown up calling Aunt and Uncle, apparently finalized their divorce in February. I find it only marginally disturbing that my grandmother and her social circle (all in their mid-80s) have more variance in their dating lives than I or most of my friends do.

New Years' Goal: I've made all my sub-goals for the fifth week in a row. My overall goal was to lose the 25 pounds I gained upon getting a car; to date I've lost approximately 12 of them. I've been slowly expanding my cookbook selection, as the part I always have the hardest time with is hitting the "dinners-at-home" goal.

Reading: Finished Cell (by Stephen King) and Helter Skelter, currently reading Reading Lolita in Tehran (which I put down a while ago and haven't picked up again yet, for no particular reason), and The Dead Will Rise (a true-crime-ish book about the lynching of Leo Frank in 1913 - going slowly, it's my nightstand book which means I read it about 15 minutes at a time twice a week or so). I have a huge stack of library books on my desk, and another on my PDA, but haven't started any of those yet.

School: Spring quarter starts a week from tomorrow.

Watching: Ari and I saw The Inside Man this afternoon - not a good movie. The only likeable character in it was the bank robber. Other than that, Dan and I have been working through DS9, a bit of Buffy (season 4), and I ordered the first season of Babylon-5 from Deep Discount DVD, which shipped Friday.

Wedding: Nothing new.

Work: Same old.
ginger: (dear journal....)
3-Day: I've done the first week of the official training (insofar as I rearranged the days a bit, but it's still the same amount of stuff). On the fundraising front, my little thermometer is currently sitting at $1310 of $2200. The fundraising link is on the sidebar of my journal page, and I'll repost it at the beginning of each month. The physical I thought I was supposed to have on Thursday was rescheduled for today, because the scheduling folks told me the wrong day and I actually ended up missing my appointment, which was supposed to have been Wednesday.

Crafting: I've got 16 repeats done on the box lace scarf, and blocked and measured the first half - it's about halfway done. Another 16-17 repeats should do it. I need to hurry up and finish the darned thing. The summer Eris is past the sleeve divisions and into the body-only parts (it's done from the top down).

Family: I haven't talked to my parents this week. My grandmother expressed an interest in me coming to visit her in May, which is a distinct possibility. Dan and I bought our plane tickets and hotel reservation for a trip to Las Vegas next month for our third anniversary. Grant and Anjela have been out of town this weekend, and I took pictures of Ari on his motorcycle for him.

New Years' Goal: Good. I made all my goals last week, fourth time in a row. I'll be posting my weekly recap when I get home.

Reading: Finished Imajica, currently reading Cell by Stephen King (I'll finish it today for sure - and I'm liking it, for a change), Reading Lolita in Tehran (which I put down last week and haven't picked up again yet, for no particular reason), Helter Skelter, and The Dead Will Rise (a true-crime-ish book about the lynching of Leo Frank in 1913 - going slowly, it's my nightstand book which means I read it about 15 minutes at a time twice a week or so).

School: Took my finals last week. Spring quarter starts two weeks from tonight. I think I'll be taking
*AMA 124: Introduction to Medical Transcription
*AMA 121: Patient Scheduling
*AMA 120: Front Office Basics
*AMA 172: A&P/Terminology - Digestive System

Watching: Joycie sent me my Christmas box, which included The Sword and the Rose, one of my favorite movies when I was a kid, and the prequel and season premiere movies for Babylon-5 :D So I've been watching the B5 on the treadmill. Dan and I have been watching Season 7 of DS9 still, and started the first season of Highlander yesterday.

Wedding: Nothing new.

Work: Same old.
ginger: (dear journal....)
3-Day: I've done mostly 1-hour, 3.3 mile segments this week, plus one 80-minute 4.4 mile walk. The official training schedule starts Monday, 3/13. It includes non-walking workouts too, so on Monday, I'm going to my first bellydance class to see how I like that. On the fundraising front, my little thermometer is currently sitting at $1310 of $2200. The fundraising link is on the sidebar of my journal page, and I'll repost it at the beginning of each month. On Friday, I ordered a book on sports nutrition from Amazon - that should be here on Tuesday. I have a physical on Thursday, partly because I haven't had one in years and partly because of the training I'm starting.

Crafting: I've got 11 repeats done on the box lace scarf, out of 48 total. Also finished the cable yoke on the summer Eris, and started working on the body.

Family: The care facility my grandfather has been in had a fire last week. Nobody was injured, but the facility will be closed for a few months. Mom found a different one that she thinks he'll be less unhappy at anyway though. (I don't talk about it much - but my grandfather is clinically depressed, in the early stages of Alzheimers, and suffers from pretty bad heart disease - all he wants to do is go back to the house where he lived with my grandmother, who passed away four years ago, and wait to die. Mom is, obviously, not enabling this wish, and he gives her some pretty hellacious flak about it. I feel bad for her.) Anjela's been overseas for this past weekend, and Ari took some pretty good pictures of me today involving boots, a motorcycle, and a trashy dress, but Mark gets first dibs on displaying those.

New Years' Goal: Good. I made all my goals last week, third time in a row.

Reading: Still working on Imajica - I only read it on the bus, and it's fromping huge. I've also been reading "Healthy Cooking for Two" and "Reading Lolita in Tehran".

School: Finals this week. Ugh. I have left 2 sets of questions, 1 2-page essay, and 3 in-class assignments before I take the actual tests.

Watching: We're on Season 7 of DS9 - enjoying it muchly. I got the A&E documentary "Shackleton" from Netflix, but instead of sending me both discs, they sent me disc 1 twice. Humph. I've finally stopped watching Rent on the treadmill, after getting through it three times, and watched Con Air this morning instead.

Wedding: Nothing new.

Work: I'm contemplating asking my boss about the possibility of doing 4 10-hour days at work instead of 5 8-hour days - the extra weekday off would give me some time at home to myself for homework and for some of the school meetings I have to go to that are scheduled during the day that I currently have to take time off for. My 1-year anniversary of permanent employment is coming up too - I think I get a raise for that. :)
ginger: (baby moose)
3-Day: As referenced here (for anyone who didn't see it on Saturday), I signed up to walk in the Seattle 3-Day, a 60-mile-in-3-days fundraising walk to raise money for breast cancer research. I'm still working on the details, but on the 1st (and probably on the 1st of every month between now and then) I'll be posting about my fundraising efforts, things I'm gifting to people who donate, things like that. The training program starts the week of March 10th, so I need to be able to walk 3 miles in an hour without any issues by then. I've been walking 20 minute blocks at 3.2-3.4 mph for a couple of weeks, so I don't imagine that will be a problem. I am now very very glad that I gave myself a treadmill for Christmas. :)

Crafting: I finished the Olympic Rogue with time to spare. I'm on the 6th repeat of ...oh, probably 35 or so? for a lace scarf for one of my coworkers. I have a second-sock still in progress. I have the yarn for a summer Eris, but I don't think I like the green I ordered for the yoke - I might do it in a brown or a blue instead, with a cream-colored body. Also contemplating a sweater or shawl to raffle for fundraising purposes (though depending on the project, it might better be made post-raffle, especially if it's something that isn't one-size-fits-all).

Family: Anjela and I both seem to have had a dynamite weekend, for the most part. We spent most of the day Sunday shopping, which is kind of unusual for us. I talked to my parents on Saturday night, and wrote to my grandfather last night. I was delayed in getting my gifts shipped, as the UPS store was closed on Sunday :P

New Years' Goal: Pretty good. I made all my goals this past week, only missed my halfhearted counting calorie goals a couple of times (and never by more than 110 calories). My scale is reading less than 150 for the first time in three years, and I'm wearing a size smaller pants than I have been for those three years too. *poing*

Reading: Was seriously overshadowed by yarning this past week.

School: My last midterm is today, and I'll be turning in my final packet for one class. Then I've got to do a bunch of bookwork, and a 2-page paper on an ethical issue in medicine, and that's about it before finals, which I need to take five of before March 17.

Watching: I bought Rent on DVD yesterday, and Dan and I are almost done with Season 6 of DS9.

Wedding: Nothing new since Thursday :)

Work: The coworkers found their crankypants again. Aside from that, nothing much.
